Sustainia in Search of Global Solutions to Ignite Sustainable Transformation


It is the second year, Sustainia will be publishing its list of 100 inspiring and groundbreaking sustainability and climate solutions. Behind the initiative is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s green initiative Regions20, UN Global Compact and the Nobel Sustainability Trust, among many others. This year to further raise awareness of the potential of existing solutions, Sustainia is teaming up with the European Commission’s campaign ‘A world you like. With a climate you like’.
The campaign, Sustainia100, is open to submissions of international projects, technologies, and state-of-art innovation setting new sustainable standards in at least one of 10 categories: Buildings, food, fashion, transportation, IT, education, energy, health, cities, and resources.

Kenya: Kwale Titanium Mine was to be launched in 2013

Australian diversified junior miner, Base Resources Ltd.'s titanium unit in Kenya aims to start mining in 2013, ending years of uncertainty over the project, a company official said on Monday. Joe Schwarz, the general manager of Base Titanium, said in a telephone interview he expected the ongoing feasibility study at the project to be concluded by early 2011, and an estimated $200 million to be raised next year to kickstart the mine. The project on Kenya's sweltering Indian Ocean coast has been held up for years by delays including demonstrations by environmental groups, disputes with local farmers over compensation for land and drawn out talks with the government.
